What you can do

Be security savvy

Standard Bank takes your online security very seriously. We do our best to ensure that the integrity of the security features required for online banking remains at the highest possible level.

However, having strong online security controls alone isn't always enough to protect against online fraud. It is also important that your environment is secure, and that you implement and adhere to strict security protocols within your organisation at all times.

Here are some tips that will help you to ensure your online environment is as secure as possible:

  • Control who can gain access to your premises, particularly to areas where your critical computers are located.
  • Make sure that your anti-virus, anti-spyware, and intrusion prevention systems are up to date.
  • Keep your operating systems updated. Ensure that the latest patches are installed, that your software is licensed and legal, and that your systems are configured correctly. Microsoft is willing to assist you in determining if you are compliant, and to help you to get compliant if you aren't.
  • Run the latest Java version. The Java system requirement for Business Online is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 6 and upwards. Older versions could leave you exposed.
  • Ensure your employees keep their login details confidential and change their passwords regularly.
  • Familiarise yourself with the information on the Business Online security portal.
  • Be alert at all times. Fraudsters strike in those weak moments when your guard is down.
  • Never share your token with anyone or leave it unattended. Always keep it locked away securely.
